Chamblee Police Crime Alert Skeletal Remains Found As you may have heard on the news, human skeletal remains were found in a densely wooded area in the airport buyout zone. The Chamblee Police received a tip that a body was in the area, conducted a line search, and found the remains under a makeshift tent tied between some trees. The Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that it initially appears the victim died from natural causes. The victim has not been identified, although we do have some good leads based on some phone numbers that were found in his pocket. Robbery A Hispanic male reported that he was lured into the woods with an offer of beer. After he was drunk, his drinking buddies beat him and stole his cell phone and wallet. A lady gave a guy she met at a club a ride home. They stopped at a gas station to get some beer. He pulled a knife on her and stole her cell phone and car keys. The victim reported that he was on his cell phone outside his apartment when three men, one armed with a gun, ordered him face down and robbed him of his wallet and phone. Burglary Prevention Tips We typically have several burglaries every week in the city. Generally residences are burglarized in the day and businesses at night, for obvious reasons. Often before burglarizing a house, burglars will ring the doorbell to confirm it is empty. If someone answers they just ask if they need lawn work done. If no one answers they typically will kick in a back door. Items taken are usually cash, electronics, and jewelry. So call 911 if someone suspicious comes to your door. The most important thing you can do to help us catch burglars is write down the serial numbers on all your electronic devices. This is also your best hope of getting your items back if you are a victim. Many burglars sell stolen items at pawn shops and all pawn shops are required to give the police a serial number list of all items they pawn. So if you didn’t write down your serial numbers, then we cannot list it as stolen on the database. If you did provide us a serial number, and it is pawned, we will likely be able to pursue charges and recover your items. Moron of the Week!! Back by popular demand I have brought back the moron of the week. Our first winner is the young man who was arrested for shoplifting at the Walmart. He told the Officer he stole “just to see if he could get away with it.” The value of the stolen items is $4, his bond to get out of jail --$660. Not to mention the fact that he now has a criminal history that will likely be checked by any employer he applies with.
